Pion Stool

The pawn of the set. Small, squat and deliberately robust, on a glossy lacquered cone.

Ionna Vautrin built the whole Pion collection on chess, giving each piece a corresponding figure. The stools are the pawns, the low occasional tables the minor pieces, and the large dining and conference tables the queen and king. It is a conceit that actually holds up in use, because everything scales from the same base form.

The base is lacquered MDF, turned into a cone. The seat is an MDF core under high resilience foam with a fixed upholstered cover, and the covering is usually chosen to either match the lacquer tonally or push against it.

This one is finished in extra matte lacquered mint, a lighter and more playful reading of the same piece. Low enough to tuck away, and small enough to move to wherever it is needed.
