Pion Ash Side Table

A turned, cone shaped lacquered base carrying a natural ash top. Pion is the pawn of a collection built entirely on chess.

Ionna Vautrin gave each piece in the range a corresponding chess figure, with the small stools and side tables standing in for the pawns and the larger dining and conference tables for the queen and king. The logic holds across the whole family, which is why the pieces mix so easily.

The appeal is in the contrast. A high gloss lacquered MDF base, deliberately coloured, sits under an ash veneer top left to show its grain, so neither material is doing the same job. The glossier the base, the more the timber reads as warm.

Offered in a long list of stains and lacquers, and small enough to work beside a chair rather than dominate it.
