Rooted Rug

Rooted comes out of Lucia Eames's collages of organic structures, growth patterns and the quiet networks that run under the surface of things.

The drawing is translated into hand-tufted New Zealand wool and then carved, so the pattern is cut into the pile at different heights rather than woven in colour. In this ivory the whole rug is a single tone and the design exists purely as light and shadow.

The pile is generous and soft, which makes it a rug for a bedroom or a sitting room rather than a hallway.

At this size it anchors a full seating group. Read close up it is a piece of drawing, and from across a room it is simply a warm, quiet field of cream.
