Ikebana Sideboard

Ikebana is a sideboard with a second job. Uto Balmoral designed it for Mogg in 2022 as a lacquered storage volume held inside a slender metal structure, and that structure is not decoration: it is there to be planted, filled and arranged.

The name comes from the Japanese art of arranging cut flowers, and the piece is built on the same idea, that displaying something is a discipline of its own. The frame turns objects, sculpture and plants into part of the furniture rather than clutter placed on top of it.

The storage half stays deliberately plain. Clean fronts, linear proportions and no visible hardware, so that everything expressive happens in the frame above and the cabinet simply does its work.

The container is offered in chestnut or across a wide RAL lacquer range, and the metal structure in a burnished or patinated bronze finish, so the two halves can be matched closely or set deliberately against each other.
