Rificolona is a floor lamp with a large, round lantern-style shade that appears to float above its slender base. It takes its name from the paper lanterns carried through Florence in a much-loved September festival, and it brings the same sense of play and occasion into a room.
Design studio E-ggs made the shade turn on its axis, so you can rotate it to direct or soften the light as the day moves on. A light spray treatment varies the density of the surface, creating a textured, moon-like translucency when the lamp is lit.
The shade is made largely from recycled polyethylene, a lightweight and hard-wearing material with a lighter environmental footprint, and it is lit by an LED source that gives a warm, even glow. A lacquered base provides a crisp, graphic counterpoint to the pale shade.
At this generous scale Rificolona becomes a sculptural centerpiece in a living room, a hotel lounge or a tall open space, glowing like a full moon beside a sofa or in an empty corner. Designed by E-ggs for Miniforms.
