Shadow Floor Lamp

Shadow is a floor lamp pared back to almost nothing: a fine black rod, a small square base and a sheet of brass mesh that seems to hover in mid air. Part of Catellani & Smith's Oggetti Senza Tempo, or timeless objects, collection, it sits somewhere between a lamp and a piece of sculpture.

The idea is about what light leaves behind as much as what it reveals. A single tiny LED picks out the folds of the metal net, and the pattern cast around it becomes the true subject, with the surrounding darkness framing the glow.

Crafted by hand in Villa di Serio, near Bergamo, the piece pairs a matt black painted copper rod with a brass net shaped by the brand's artisans. A foot dimmer on the black cable lets you set the mood exactly, and it remembers your last setting.

The light is low, warm and deliberately atmospheric, ideal for a reading corner, the end of a sofa or a bedroom where you want a quiet focal point rather than brightness. Set against a plain wall, it fills the surface with a delicate web of light and shadow.
